Services

Free Telephone Consultation:  I offer a free phone consultation in order to answer any questions you might have.  I can get an initial grasp of the issues you wish to discuss in therapy, and give you an idea of how I can help.  Over the phone we can set an appointment for an initial consultation session, and/or identify possible referral rescources for you.  For a telephone consultation call (323) 638-4152.

Initial Consultation Session:  This is our first meeting during which I try and get a deeper understanding of your goals and desires for therapy, and what brings you into therapy.  During this time you can decide if you feel comfortable with me as your therapist, and I can be frank with you about whether or not your specific set of issues fit within my areas of knowledge and competence. We will also use this time to fill out relevant paperwork for the commencement of therapy, discuss fees, office policies, and limits to confidentiality.  I offer the initial consultation session at a reduced fee.

Individual Psychotherapy:  Individual therapy is 50 minutes 1-4 times per week, depending on your needs and interest.  We form a collaborative relationship aimed at helping you make improvements in areas of life most important to you.  Common issues that I work with are:

•    Anxiety and Panic Disorder
•    Anti-Anxiety Medication Abuse and Dependence
•    Multi-Cultural Issues of Immigration and Adjusting to a New Culture.
•    Job Stress/Career Uncertainties
•    Relationship/Marital Problems
•    Self-Image and Self-Esteem
•    Parenting Children with Behavioral Needs (Autism included)
•    L/G/B/T Specific Issues, Gender-fluid, Gender Identity
•    Depression
•    Trauma
•    Single Parenthood

Couples Psychotherapy:  Couple's therapy is 50 to 90 minutes per session depending on your need.  It can be a highly effective treatment for a number of relationship problems.  In couples therapy we work as a team on resolving or accepting differences, improving communication and enhancing intimacy.  Couples often present the following problems in sessions:

•    Unsatisfactory Sex Life
•    Lack of Communication
•    Frequent Yelling and Arguing
•    Different Values and Tastes
•    Unfaithful Tendencies
•    Difficulty Finding Commonalities
•    Problems with In-laws
•    Parenting Issues
•    Partner Drug and Alcohol Abuse and Dependence

Family Psychotherapy:  Many issues stem from the family.  Similarly, many problems are most effectively solved in the context of the whole family.  This is particularly true when children are involved, and parenting issues present themselves.  It is helpful to be aware that interactions between family members often help to create and maintain psychological problems.  That is why I offer family therapy sessions ranging from 50-90 minutes each depending on the size of the family in participation and presenting issues.  Many problems brought into individual sessions can be targeted with family therapy.

Group Psychotherapy:  A unique and life changing experience, group therapy can be a highly effective method of treatment, and more appropriate for some individuals than other forms of therapy.  In group you will have the chance to hear other's reactions to issues you share in common.  Social skills can be practiced in group.  Group is a safe environment for individuals to obtain feedback from members, find support, and not feel alone.  Groups typically run 1.5- 2 hours.

Professional Consultation:  I offer consultation to other professionals on Multi-Cultural issues, and on providing Culturally Sensitive Services.  My culture of special focus is the Iranian/American population and children of Iranian immigrants.

Languages:  Services provided in English and Farsi.
